Join Sarah and Hermione from the Eureka Centre Education team as they unearth objects from Public Record Office Victoria’s Eureka Collection. Get up close to the original, hand-written artifacts as they take you on a journey through October 1854 and analyse the rising tensions on the goldfields.

The murder of James Scobie on 7 October 1854 triggered a series of events that escalated the miners’ unrest on the Ballarat goldfields. Watch the drama unfold through letters written by the accused murderer, court depositions from witnesses, petitions sent to the Governor of Victoria and eye-witness accounts by local police.

A Ballarat Heritage Festival event presented by the Eureka Centre Ballarat in partnership with Public Record Office Victoria.
